Since I have kind of become the DIY girl, I decided to start a series on DIY beauty products. You may remember the DIY Pore Strips (if not, check it out here). This week, we’re making our own tinted lip gloss! This is super simple. All you’ll need is:
– petroleum jelly
– a beet, or a few carrots (fresh, not canned!)
– buddy cups (found at Michael’s in the soap-making and painting aisles)
– microwave safe bowl
– hand masher or juicer
Choose what color you want your lip gloss to be. Choose the beet for lighter pink to deep burgundy, or the carrot for light orange to deep red orange.
Chop up the veggies into small cubes.
Microwave your veggies in a microwave safe bowl for a little under a minute. Juice should start seeping out.
Mash your veggies or put them in a juicer to extract as much juice as possible.
Put a small amount of petroleum jelly in a buddy cup and add the vegetable juice a few drops at a time until you achieve the desired color.
Because there are no preservatives in this lip gloss, it will only last a couple weeks safely. Keep it in the fridge at night while you aren’t using it to keep it lasting a little longer.
Also, petroleum doesn’t add moisture to your lips, but it does help retain moisture. You learn how to hydrate your lips, read my past blog on supple lips.
